Hopkins Chapel By Mary Virginia Averette Mr. Thomas Young an uncle of Mrs. Jean King, is at the Veterans’ Hospital in Durham. Mr. Josh Horton and Mrs. Liza Horton are at Wake Memorial Hos pital. Mrs. Roxie Bunn is at Mary Elizabeth Hospital. Charles Hocutt is at Rex Hospital, and Willnrd Gay is in a Wilson Hospital. Vivian Rose Langston is sick at home. Howard and Rose Doyle spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Grady Doyle. Mr. and Mrs. James Williford and family were weekend guests of Mrs. Rica Ray. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Fowler vis ited her parents at Magnolia last week. Mr. and Mrs. Vester Perry an nounce the birth of a daughter, Jo Ann, on March 23. Mrs. PeTry is the former Hazel Bailey. Mrs. Helen Farthera, Mrs. Ruby Walker, and Mrs. Pattie Hopkins were recent visitors of Mrs. Iris Temple. Iris is staying with her daughter, Mrs. Minda Finch, after spending some time at Wake Mem orial Hospital. Wilson Stallings went to Geor gia last week to visit his sister, Mrs. Sarah Rigouard. Mrs. Martha Alford, Mrs. Miner va Perry, and Mrs. Lena Bunn vis ited the sick at Rex and Wake\ Memorial Hospitals Sunday after- j noon. Sunday afternoon visitors of the Raymond Averettes were Mrs. Esther Averette, from the Roger’s Rest Home, Wake Forest, and Mr. and Mrs. Winston T. Shearon and James from Raleigh. The Intermediate G. The meeting was called to order by the vice-president, Cathy Gay. After an interesting program, refreshments were serv ed to the following: Mrs. Betty | Mae Perry, Ruby Leigh Denton,' Esther V. Fathera, Cathy Gay, Sandra Nell Perry, Janice Perry, Mary Rhodes, and Helen Mitchell. Barbara Ann Farthera was host ess to the Junior G. A.’s on Thurs day night, March 21. After the pro gram, delicious refreshments con sisting of punch, cookies and po tato chips were served. We extend symapthy to the fam ily of Mr. Robert King who died last week. Many of you will re member his son, Ellis King, an outstanding Wakelon football player in 1960-61. There will be a meeting of all Boy Scouts and their parents at Hopkins Chapel Church Thursday night, March 28, at 7:30. Mr. Austin Perry, Janice and Connie Perry started walking to Raleigh Sunday morning about 7:45. After walking about 11 miles, Mrs. Perry picked them up and carried them to Johnny’s for lunch. Following lunch and with a little rest, Janice and Connie decided to walk back. However, after nine more miles, they were happy to be picked up by Mr. and Mrs. Per ry. Connie said that it took them six hours to walk twenty miles. Someone asked them if they were taking Kennedy’s 50-mile hike. Others wanted to know if they had had car trouble. Mr. and Mrs. Snapper Pearce have just moved into their new home in Billysville. The members of the Hopkins Chapel Baptist Church are build ing a parsonage next to the home of Mr. Newman Brannan. New Correspondent Mrs. Mary Virginia Averette is now The Record’s correspondent for Hopkins Chapel community. She succeeds Mrs. Iris Temple, who resigned as correspondent because of illness. Mrs. Averette is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James T. Shearon of Route 2, Wake Forest. She is a graduate of Wake Forest High School, Louisburg College and Hardbarger Business College. She is married to Ray mond Averette and they are the parents of two sons, James Ray mond, 17, and Preston, 14. The family resides on Route 3, Zebulon. The James Vernon Johnsons and family of Clayton spent Saturday with his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Clemon Johnson and family. Sunday guests of the Vaiden Richardsons were Mrs. Geneva Spencer and children of Raleigh, the Larry Duprees of Clayton, Miss Daphene Wilson of Emit, William Smith of Wendell, and the Larry Andrews and son. Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Driver and son of Wilmington were recent guests of his parents, the Joshua Drivers, and son. The Jeff Gordons and children of Oxford visited Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Parrish Sunday after noon. Mr. and Mrs. Alton Hinton and family and Miss Vierce Hinton were Sunday guests of Mrs. Hin ton’s grandmother, Mrs. Mollie Batten, of near Raleigh. Mrs. Modell Parrish was a Mon day afternoon guest of Mrs. Beu lah Bunn, Debbie Stallings, and Mrs. Myrtie Chamblee. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Chamblee and boys visited her parents, the J. L. Freemans, of Castalia Sunday afternoon. Sunday night supper guests of the Talmadge Vanns were Mr. and Mrs. Bo Sutton and family and Mrs. Claude Anthony, all of Wil son. Mr. and Mrs. William Driver and daughter and the Jimmy Dri vers had supper Friday night at Parkers in Wilson. Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Brown and family of Raleigh and Mts. Barnie Wilder of Wilson were Saturday guests of their mother, Mrs. Wade Lee, and the James Upchurches. Mrs. Ara Martin recently visited her son, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Martin, of Corinth. Mrs. Lucy Driver was a Sunday night supper guest of her son, Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Driver, and family. Debbie Stallings, daughter of Mrs. Elsie Stallings, who has r heu matic fever, is in bed at the home of her grandmother, Mrs. Beulah Bunn where she is recuperating. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Becker and family of New York visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Tip pett, last Saturday. The Carman Phillips and family of Raleigh visited her father, Mr. and Mrs. Will Creech, on last Wednesday. Visiting the Thelbert Creeches Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Howard Franklin and family of Cary. Kay Frances Beckwith To Graduate Miss Kay Frances Beckwith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Beckwith of Route 4, Zebulon, will graduate in June from Cortez W. Peters Business College in Washing ton, D. C. The graduate of Shepard High School has been an honor stu dent since enrolling at tlie college, making all A’s on the subjects. With this distinguished record she has been offered several positions upon gradua tion. Emit 4-H'ers Busy During National 4-H Club Week The members of the Emit Com munity 4-H Club were busy during National 4-H Club Week. On Monday, four of its mem bers, Judy Strickland, Carolyn and Wanda Narron, and Joan Faucette and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Strick land were among the 300 4-H’ers and leaders from Johnston Coun ty who toured the new state house. Another day several members of the club, Judy Strickland, Row land Strickland, Toni Sue Hinton, Jane Vann, Kaydene Wilson, Emo gene and Eugene Glover, Ray Wilder, Carolyn Narron, and Zel ma Batten gave a radio program on WMPM radio station on “Or ganizing and Progress of a Com munity 4-H Club.” The club members put grace cards on the lunchroom tables and put bulletin boards up in the school. Also, the club carried nutcups with mints in them to put on the patients trays at the Wendell-Zeb ulon Hospital. Each day, the members wore 4-H chevrons and on Friday they wore their 4-H uniforms. On Saturday, Judy Strickland and Rowland Strickland repre sented the club on Mable Talton’s radio program on WMPM. Then Sunday, sixteen of its members and some of their lead ers and parents attended worship services in a group at Antioch Baptist Church. The pastor, Rev. Rhodes, Sr., Sunday. In the afternoon they attended the open house held in the new home of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Craft in Edgemont. Quite a number came for the occasion with many lovely gifts. ' Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Horton of Wendell and Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Creech had lunch with the George Currins Sunday. The George Currins had lunch Saturday with her mother, Mrs. Maggie Strickland, of Wendell. .. . . Mr. and Mrs. T. Y. Puryear, Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Gay of Kinston, Mrs. Verd Rhodes of Wakefield vis ited their mother, Mrs. Alice Hood, Tuesday night. Mrs. Hood is a bed patient at her home and is some better. Other visitors during the week end were her sister and daughter, Mrs. Susan Jones and Mrs. Nellie Mae Green of Raleigh, and Mrs. T. Y. James Pemell, pastor of Hephzibah Baptist Church, was moved last week from Wendell Zebulon Hospital to the Veterans’ Hospital in Durham. Little Tim and Tam Whitley and Sharon Starnes of Wendell spent the weekend at their grandpar ents, the Alfonza Starnes. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bobbitt of Wendell were visitors Sunday. Mr. Robert Phillips of Zebulon called at Mr. Robert Brantley’s Sunday. Visitors at Mr. John Starnes Sunday were Mrs. Shirley Hembry and children of Kinston, Mrs. Jack West and two sons of Durham, Mr. and Mrs. George Nowell of Raleigh, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Bry an and son, Randy, of Garner, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bobbitt of Wendell and Mrs. Louise Starnes. He can walk some now. Mr. and Mrs. T. Y. Puryear, Sr., went to Wake Memorial Hospital Sunday night to see their daughter. Mrs. Mable Williford, who under went surgery last Thursday. Sunday visitors at the T. Y. Pur years, Sr., were the Carl Puryears and Maynard Puryears of Raleigh, the T. Y. Puryears, Jr., of Wendell, and the Ennis Puryears of Mitchell Mill, Mrs. Freddie Baker and chil dren, Ernestine and Bruce of Pearces, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hood and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Hood. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Earp of Lake Myra visited her daughter, Mrs. Eloise Halifield, Tuesday. Mrs. Evelyn Brantley visited Mts. Lonnie Poole in Wakefield Monday afternoon.
